Notable among the electrostrictive materials are the so-called relaxor ferroelectrics that show high polarization (large actuation) and characteristic frequency dispersion of the dielectric maximum (i.e. maximum permitivity decreases and shifts to higher temperatures with increasing frequency).  This relaxation character has been attributed to a statistical inhomogeneity in the distribution of cations in the structure creating microdomains of varying transition temperatures.
